Sunday Coach CONNECT - Mission, Vision, Values
This week I have spent a great deal of time fine tuning the essence of HITOP Life. What’s the mission, vision, and values? This got me thinking about what one word would I use to explain HITOP Life? After a discussion with my business coach (David R.) an amazing man of God, friend, and marketer, he challenged me to relate HITOP to a scripture. Brilliant, I thought. Within minutes I was reminded of Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed by this world, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind.” There it was the word that I believe is the essence of HITOP. More on that in a minute.
Today’s Sunday Coach CONNECT may feel a bit different then what I usually write about, but I think it is a topic of importance. If you are starting a business, going into the mission field, becoming the mentor, or such, you need to know your mission, cast your vision, and identify which values will guide you. Going to God’s Word, reflecting in prayer, and inviting Him in will allow you to understand His plans and give you direction on how best to serve. Now, let’s look at these three areas more closely:
- Mission (What are we Called to Do)
- Vision (What are we Called to Be)
- Values (What will we use as guidelines to carry out our mission and move toward our vision)
I’m not ready to reveal the Mission, Vision, and Values for HITOP Life just yet. Instead, let’s look at how knowing your Mission, Vision, and Values can strengthen the message, purpose, and focus on why God created you. There is a purpose. Trust this!
Mission – The What
Consider this for a moment. Whatever your mission, make sure it is worthwhile as you are giving up part of your life for it. What are you willing to give part of your life for? Simon Sinek has famously been quoted saying “People don’t invest in what you do, they invest in “WHY” you do it?” While they need to understand what you do, that’s our mission. Why you do it, that’s our vision. And how you will follow through, that’s our values. God has designed you for a specific mission. He has chosen you and me to carry out His design.
Do you believe this? Do you know that God has personally chosen you to fulfill a piece of His plan? Reflect on this and invite Him in to reveal to you what your mission is. What has God Called you to Do?
Vision – The Why
The vision is your passion. Reverend Billy Graham made a choice at an early age to devote his life to God, God’s message, and making sure others had an opportunity to hear “God loves you.” Of course, this changed his life. It, however, changed some of the hundreds of millions who heard him and our country. People paid attention to Billy, not because of what he did, but because of why he did it. Why do you do what you do? Who is it benefiting? Who are you serving? Why?
Values – The How
Finally, comes the values. What are your core beliefs? Perhaps you have already laid out your mission and your vision. There is a reason you are investing this time. Help others understand now what guides you. For me, I choose to follow the guidelines of Humility, Integrity, Truth, Obedience, and Prayer, doing my best not to act on judgment, guilt, fear, or pride. The values represent a part of us. They serve as our compass to communicate to others our mission and believe in our vision. This leads me back to the Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed by this world, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind.”
The word that serves as the essence of HITOP is TRANSFORMED. When men truly understand what a life of LOVING unconditionally, LISTENING intentionally, and LEADING boldly does for their relationships, especially, the one with Jesus, not only will be TRANSFORMED, so will our relationships. Who you are and how you serve as a husband, dad, brother, son, employer/employee, friend, and more will also TRANSFORM. When you live this way you rarely need to say what your values are, they’re evident in how you live your life, interact, and treat others.
Know your mission, vision, and values as you live out what you love and are passionate to see shared with the world. The world needs us. It needs YOU!
“The will of God will not take us where the grace of God cannot sustain us.” – Billy Graham
Make an Impact
Do you understand that God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called? We are all called. He has a mission for you and I. If He did not need us here on Earth right now, He would call us home. I am grateful to be here, to be sharing with you what I feel God created me for. HITOP Life. Thank you for being apart of this mission. I am here to LOVE. LISTEN. LEAD. Please share what your mission is, I would love to hear it and help you in any way I can. God has brought us together, and He is never surprised, never worried, and never wasting a moment. If you are wondering what you could possibly offer God, you have already answered it, YOU. That is what He wants. What you get in turn, being TRANSFORMED!
Have an Amazing week!
