Sunday Coach CONNECT - February 4, 2018
This past week I heard some great words of wisdom that I wish to share with you in today's Sunday Coach CONNECT. Before I do though, I heard our pastor speak today on how we are living in the information age, yet we are not living in the wisdom age. How could it be that our society could have so much information at our disposal, yet miss out on wisdom? Perhaps because information is merely knowledge we gain through our experience and what we are exposed to. While wisdom is discerning this “knowledge” as truth. Sometimes our “truth” is a deceived lie that must be dealt with. In today’s post my prayer is to expose any lies and replace them with words of truth.
Here’s the truth I am learning this week.
Quote - This week my friend, Scott Hooper shared with me, Then he asked me, will you remain hurt or become healthy? Powerful!
Mindset – I prayed over and thought about what Scott shared with me. I realized that “Hurt People” focus on our pain, problems, and past. Often to the point, we cannot let them go, and they become a part of us. Do you ever find yourself often talking about what hurts in your life or what you miss from your past (which is still hurt)? Perhaps, like me, you didn’t even realize this was your focus and a part of you. I assure you this, those closest to you are aware. Just ask them or pay attention to how you talk, what you talk about, and whether it’s deep in your past. If you find this pattern is present in your life, GOOD NEWS! You do not have to stay there and there is hope! Philippians 4:8 tells us “Brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” This mindset shift will move you as a Hurt Person to a Healthy Person and you will HEAL. Your new focus replaces pain with Freedom, problems with Forgiveness, and the past with the Future. When you set your mind on being Free, Forgiving (including yourself), and looking forward to the Future You Pursue Your Potential!
Scripture - Don’t Follow Your Heart, Seek Wisdom Jeremiah 17:9 warns us “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? Proverbs 4:6-7 instructs us further saying “Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it will cost all you have, get understanding.” When we are hurt, we want to get an army on our side. We want others to understand us and validate our pain. We want them to become our ally and join our fight. We reject any form of humility, forgiveness, leadership in this state. But when we are healthy, we turn to advisors who we trust. Those who will speak the hard truth and motivate us to make the right decisions, including to forgive. They edify, encourage, and lift us up and out of the pit we are in.
